Basic rules for the use of proper fonts
- Font format: use high-quality and well-tested fonts, the best being Type1,
- The most reliable localized types come from the following sets: URW OpenWorks, Adobe TypeLibrary (localization by Macron)
- Be sure to test a new font in the whole chain of applications and output devices used before putting it into routine use – make a test print of the whole character set.
- In Mac OS do not use fonts named according to cities (Chicago, Geneva, New York...) – these are types suitable for screens but not for exposure.
- Do not use application-generated styles – if the font family does not contain the corresponding section, choose another alternative; this also applies for the Outline style generated in QXP
- Do not colour a text smaller than 10 points with ink composed of more than 2 extracts – inaccurate matching may spoil the whole result.
Pre-print artwork approval after DTP corrections
If the final data is to be approved after being modified in our DTP studio, we send a PDF file (1.5 standard) that can be correctly viewed in the ACROBAT 7.0 program (not Acrobat Reader). When viewing this file, the overprint function must be turned on!
If the approval involves inspection of the resulting colors and no correct digital proof copy (produced with an inkjet post script printer via RIP with an ICC profile for offset printing on a proof paper) is delivered, we can send our proof copy printed using the Epson Photo Stylus 3880 printer with the RIP EFI XF Client on a semimatt Proof Paper with the ISO 175 offset printing ICC profile.
If the colors are inspected using on-screen data, the following conditions must be met:
- files must be viewed in an application with the color management enabled; preferably PHOTOSHOP for PDF files; with an ICC profile installed
- screen colors must be calibrated
Other inspection means cannot be accepted since displayed colors will not correctly match the resulting print.
Drafts for creating the graphics documentation
Sketches
Presence in person is necessary when submitting drafts.
Draft documents for scanning
Must be of corresponding quality. The best media are slides, photographs, original drawings and paintings on paper. Documents larger than A4 (approx. 290mm x 200mm) should be consulted in advance. When scanning printed material it is necessary to count on a reduction in quality.
Graphic documentation of a logo
This is best submitted as a vector file. In other cases the forms, colour shades and font types must be clear.
