The folk group Liptov from Ruzomberok was founded in 1946 and therefore belongs to the oldest ensembles of its kind in Slovakia. The folk group‘s repertoire focuses on preserving the folk traditions, mainly those in the region of Lower Liptov, situated in the northern

part of central Slovakia. The folk group‘s intention is to gradually present the treasure of music and songs of single Liptov villages, mainly of those in the district of Ruzomberok. Although the music and song repertoire of individual villages often intermingle, there is always something new, typical for each village. It would not be wise to leave behind neither a single tune nor a verse of this cultural treasure. We would like to present the songs from the village of Liptovske Sliace, as the third part of the sequence. The village is situated at the foothills of the Low Tatras. The first written record is from the year of 1251. The village is considered to be very rich in folk traditions and folk culture, within Slovakia. It is not a coincidence that personalities active in the field of folk culture, such as master choreographer Juraj Kubanka, ethnologist Kliment Ondrejka, singer of folk songs Anna Hulejova or dancer and choreographer Vojtech Littva, came out of this village. Similarly, the first members of The folk group Liptov came from the village of Liptovske Sliace. Vojtech Littva led this folk ensemble for more than forty years and nowadays his son Igor continues in his work. It is therefore natural for The folk
group Liptov to draw inspiration in its work mostly from the village of Liptovske Sliace. There are so many local songs that it would be impossible to record them all. As a result, we have decided to choose songs that are mostly in the repertoire of The folk group Liptov.
