Live in Brno at the Moravian Autumn 2019

Review on MusicWeb International

8 December 2019 marked the centenary of Mieczysław Weinberg, an important yet until recently semi-forgotten Polish-Russian 20th-century composer with Jewish roots. The Moravian Autumn festival commemorated the anniversary in two evenings, on 7 and 13 October 2019, during which all of Weinberg’s six sonatas for violin and piano were performed at Brno’s Besední dům (the programme of the second concert was completed with selected sonatas for solo instruments). The complete set was played by the violinist Milan Pala and his pianist of choice, Ladislav Fanzowitz – musicians whose collaboration over many years and unique interpretations of music, especially that of the 20th century, promised an extraordinary performance. We are very fortunate that, thanks to a live recording of the concerts, we can return to these performances again and again, and that those who were not able to be among the audience can also enjoy this music.
